The annual event was held on November 25, 2020 from 6:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. at the Cordis Hotel in Auckland, New Zealand. Mr. Ruan Ping, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Auckland, Mr. Raymond Fan, Director of Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office Representative to Australia & New Zealand, WABA (New Zealand), Hong Kong New Zealand Business Association (HKNZBA) and other department heads attended the event, joined by more than 150 guests from relevant business associations.
The annual event held by HKNZBA aimed to boost the economy and facilitate the progress in the information age as well as business-to-business exchanges, which marked a successful ending for the Hong Kong Festival.
The event provides an opportunity for entrepreneurs to interact with one another and bring Hong Kong entrepreneurs closer to global cooperation.
In his speech, Mr. Ruan Ping congratulated the opening of the event, pointing out that China had entered a new stage of development, and a “dual circulation” development pattern in which the domestic economic cycle and the international economic cycle are mutually promoted. Since the handover of Hong Kong back to China, the “One Country, Two Systems” policy has achieved a worldwide recognition. Mr. Ruan commended the constructive role played by the Hong Kong New Zealand Business Association in serving new Hong Kong businessmen and promoting economic and trade exchanges and cooperation between Hong Kong and New Zealand.
Mr. Raymond Fan said in a live speech that although Hong Kong’s economy is under pressure this year due to the social unrest, the pandemic and other shocks, the SAR government is confident that the pandemic can be controlled and the economy revived. Under the framework of “one country, two systems”, Hong Kong will give its full play to the unique advantages in the “dual circulation” economic development strategy and take the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area as an entry point to better integrate into the overall development of China.
In her speech, Dr Heida Donegan, President of the Hong Kong New Zealand Business Association, congratulated the opening of the event and introduced the HKNZBA, which is a member of the Global Federation of Hong Kong Business Associations since its establishment in 1988, as a unique network of 33 Hong Kong business associations in 24 countries with over 10,000 members. It has been working to promote business linkages and to develop partnerships with Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Hong Kong Economic and Trade Offices, Invest Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Tourism Board.
Guests from all over the world attended the event, listening to the speakers and engaging actively in the Q&A session.
During the event, WABA (New Zealand) also organized an auction and raffle activities for a Liquor, by Moutai Technology Development Company—the “Tianchao Shangpin”, in an attempt to promote global liquor circulation and achieve common standards, shared resources, mutual benefits, and common goodwill.
